Book Review: Time for Truth by OS Guinness

Time for Truth by OS Guinness

In his book, Time for Truth, OS Guinness discusses truth from the viewpoint of postmodernism compared with Christianity.  One of his major themes is that truth is not only essential for freedom, it is freedom.  He starts by saying that this is a "small book on a large topic".  His book is not meant to be comprehensive.  This leads me to the first point...

Favorite Quotes

Here is a short list of some of my favorite quotes.  I do not know the original author of most, so if you do, please let me know.  There is even one by me!  Let me know if you have any quotes you think I might like, and I may add them to the page.  I will be adding more and more as I go.  I hope you find some encouragement from some of these as I have.

Book Review: Has Christianity Failed You? by Ravi Zacharias

Dr. Zacharias’ book “Has Christianity Failed You?” was released in 2010.  Dr. Zacharias deals with some of the most important questions raised by those that have left the faith.  Throughout his book he systematically answers the most popular questions.  This is not meant to be an exhaustive review, rather a quick summation in order to help you determine whether you should add this text to your reading list.

William Lane Craig vs. Sam Harris Debate

In this audio debate, Dr. Craig and Dr. Harris discuss whether or not the foundation for morality is natural or supernatural.  In other words, Dr. Craig posits that the only sound foundation for objective morality is God, while Dr. Harris argues that there can be a foundation for objective morality with out God.

Why is philosophy so scary?

It never ceases to amaze me the stigma that people have when it comes to the field of philosophy.  I teach a 10th grade philosophy class, and every year at parent orientation when the parents come to talk to the teachers of their students that year, my section of philosophy is full of parents that all have the same look on their face.  That look that says, "What on earth are you teaching my child?"  The concern is real, as well as the stigma.  What is philosophy?

Christian Education or Not?

Should you send your child to a Christian school?  This is a very personal and difficult question to answer for parents.  There are a lot of things to consider before you make this decision.  I think we need to remember that our educational systems today teach our students much more than just book facts, they spend more time teaching our kids about life in general than some of us do.  So this decision should not be based only on academics, although they are an important part of the educational proccess, rather it should be based on a comprehensive approach.

Blog Beginnings

Success!  I am now officially a "Blogger".  Ok, so I have no idea what I am doing.  This reminds me of when I got my new android phone, (an upgrade from a blackberry).  I played with my new toy for the first 3 hours that night, and only the anger of my wife kept me from playing with it for 6 hours that night.  It took me some time to realize what all I could do with this new toy.  So I am sure that it will take me some time to learn all that I can do with this blog.  But I am looking forward to the journey!  I love discussing God, Apologetics, Philosophy, and Faith, but I do not pretend to have all of the answers.  I am looking for positive people to help me on my journey for Truth.  Finally, my life verse is 1 Corinthians 10:31, which says "Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do everything for God's glory." (HCSB).  I believe that this is a standard for all who follow Christ, and that this standard is not optional.  I hope that this blog will be an encouragement to those to read its pages!  May the Lord bless you and keep you!
